Papillion (meaning butterfly in French) has always been a rich city in its existence since its foundation in 1870. According to popular tale, French visitors found the valley’s dense luxurious vegetation and abundant wild flowers. At the sight of the numerous butterflies, one of the explorers called out, “Papillion!”
